Parents, if you haven’t already heard it before, let me remind you: The things that shape your child’s beliefs and way of thinking are going to come from somewhere — It’s either going to be from the world, OR you!

Not coming from a christian home as a child, I now know how important it is to help your children think and live from a biblical mind. Without the guidance from parents, children are left to entertain every thought and feeling that they have. When this goes unchecked you have the result of what we see in a lot of children now-a-days: anxious, aimless, and angry. The world is running rampant with anxiety and fear, and it is our job as parents to help our children confront what society passively allows as the new normal.

My hope is that you will be encouraged by what you read below. Point your children in the ways of God and when they are older they will remember the foundation you established for them.

Below I have written out the top 5 Biblical Mindsets & Truths for Kids:

Mindset #1: I Am Chosen By God

Remind your child that they are not merely a random occurrence in the grand scheme of the universe; they are appointed by God for this specific time and place, entrusted into your care by a loving and intentional Heavenly Father. Emphasize the profound truth that they are deeply cherished by the Creator of the world – God himself. Before they even took their first breath, God knew them intimately, weaving together the intricate details of their being with purpose and intentionality.

Express the magnitude of God’s love by highlighting the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus Christ, as evidence of their infinite worth in His eyes. God’s plans for them extend far beyond the confines of this earthly realm; they are destined for an eternal inheritance in Heaven. Encourage them to walk boldly in the path that God has laid out for them, knowing that He has already ordained their steps.

  • Bible Verses:
    • Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV): “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
    • Ephesians 1:4-5 (NIV): “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”
    • 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV): “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Mindset #2: I Am Teachable

Guide your child to understand the importance of aligning their desires with God’s will, recognizing that they cannot serve two conflicting masters simultaneously. Encourage them to cultivate a heart of humility, allowing God to refine and shape them according to His perfect design. Emphasize the transformative power of surrendering their will to God’s, acknowledging that He alone can provide true hope and a future filled with purpose.

Instill in them the value of being receptive to instruction, even when it challenges their preconceived notions or comforts. True teachability requires a willingness to set aside personal pride and ego, opening oneself up to the wisdom and guidance that God offers through His word and those He places in their lives.

  • Bible Verses:
    • Proverbs 1:5 (NIV): “Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance.”
    • Proverbs 12:1 (NIV): “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.”
    • Psalm 25:5 (NIV): “Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

Mindset #3: I Will Persevere

Stress the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity, reminding your child that challenges are inevitable in life. Encourage them to adopt a mindset of resilience, knowing that every trial they endure strengthens their character and deepens their reliance on God’s unwavering strength.

Reassure them that God has equipped them with everything they need to overcome obstacles and fulfill the purpose He has set before them. Encourage them to lean into His promises and to draw upon His limitless resources of strength, wisdom, and courage as they navigate life’s inevitable trials.

Remember, adversity and trials come in all shapes and sizes. A child struggling with their math homework needs to be reminded to persevere even when they want to give up. The same will go with a child struggling in friendships, sports or learning new skills/habits. Learning to persevere now equips them to stand strong later in life when trials and adversity are bigger.

  • Bible Verses:
    • Romans 5:3-4 (NIV): “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.”
    • James 1:12 (NIV): “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
    • Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV): “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

Mindset #4: I Solve Problems

Empower your child to recognize their potential as problem solvers, not only academically but also in the broader context of life. Shift their perspective from viewing challenges as mere obstacles to viewing them as opportunities for growth and innovation. Encourage them to approach problem-solving with creativity, resilience, and a steadfast reliance on God’s guidance.

Illustrate the importance of developing problem-solving skills beyond the classroom, emphasizing their applicability in addressing real-world issues and making a positive impact in their communities. By cultivating a mindset centered on finding solutions, they become active participants in advancing God’s kingdom on earth, bringing light to dark places and contributing to the restoration of brokenness.

  • Bible Verses:
    • Philippians 4:13 (NIV): “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
    • Matthew 19:26 (NIV): “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'”
    • James 1:5 (NIV): “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Mindset #5: I Will Do Good Things

Inspire your child to uphold a standard of goodness and righteousness in all their actions, even when faced with peer pressure or temptation. Remind them of their identity as children of God, called to live according to His standards rather than conforming to the patterns of this world.

Encourage them to persevere in doing good, knowing that their efforts are not in vain and that God sees and delights in every act of kindness and compassion. Reinforce the idea that their choices have the power to influence others positively, serving as beacons of light in a world often overshadowed by darkness.

Ask my kids, one of my most often repeated phrases in our home is, “plant good things and good things will grow.”

Teach your children that in order to see good things grow in their life they must plant good things — and not grow weary in doing so!

  • Bible Verses:
    • Galatians 6:9 (NIV): “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
    • 2 Thessalonians 3:13 (NIV): “And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.”
    • Colossians 3:23-24 (NIV): “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
