Moms, you’re not busy.

Wait, hear me out!

This one simple mindset switch can change your life.

Instead of always saying, “I’m so busy!” say, “my life is full”.

When you constantly repeat to yourself and to others how busy you are it creates this picture of franticness and anxiety. Like a chicken running around with its head cut off. If you didn’t grow up in the country that may sound a little morbid, but it’s true! When you say you’re busy it comes across like you have no control over your time or life. Instead everything is happening to you, and you didn’t have a choice.

But you do.

You do have a choice, and responsibility for what you fill your life and schedule with.

So, for the mom who is currently running around from work, to sports practices – to dance rehearsals – to grocery shopping – to church volunteering – to a rare coffee date with a friend – to cooking dinner – to cleaning the house – to birthday shopping – to homework with the kids – to the gym – to folding the laundry – to scheduling the doctor appointments etc. etc. etc. I want you to try this instead:

Stop saying, “I’m busy” and start saying, “my life is full.”

When you start saying my life is full you are communicating that you have chosen what you fill your time with. You have taken ownership of the things you have committed to. And, if your life is currently full then it will also create a boundary to prevent you from over filling your life.

So, be honest with yourself and ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Are you busy? (Or have you actually just over filled your life and schedule?)
  2. Is your schedule maxed out? (Or do you need better systems in place to accomplish your responsibilities?)
  3. Is your current life full? (And you need to say no to extra responsibilities/opportunities?)

Healthy people take the time to regularly reevaluate the things around them.

Once you answer those questions above it’s time to respond accordingly. You may be surprised, and realize there really is room in your schedule for the things you keep saying you’re too busy for. Or you may find relief in accepting that your life is full, BUT it’s full of the things you love most! Or you may see that the unnecessary stress is actually coming from your lack of discipline around time management. No matter what your revelation is, I encourage you to take your thoughts captive. Change your mindset. Take responsibility for your life and schedule. And lean into living a life free from anxiousness and exhaustion due to “busyness”. Live your life in such a way that honors God in all things!
